Jefferson Davis was a United States soldier and statesman but is most widely known for serving as the only president of the Confederate States of America.
Although he was initially laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans, Louisiana, Davis was later reinterred in Hollywood Cemetery upon the request of his wife, Varina Davis. A life-size statue of Jefferson Davis marks his tomb. His children, many of whom died young, were also reinterred in Davis Circle and his wife was buried nearby following her death.
