Common Birds at Hollywood Cemetery
The cemetery’s natural areas – including open spaces, shrubs, hedgerows, thickets, trees – and its close proximity to the James River are magnets for both resident and migratory birds. More than 100 different species can be seen over the course of a year, and dozens of species nest within cemetery grounds, making this one of Richmond’s “hot spots” for birding.
Access a checklist for a listing of species reported at the cemetery. Check out our self-guided ID tool, with many "fun facts" derived from Cornell Lab's All About Birds and photos from local photographers, to identify some of the most common bird species.
Download the free Merlin Easy Bird ID App, which identifies what bird is singing, as well as identifies your bird photos. It is an essential coach for birders at every level.
